Will pop-up blocking software, third-party toolbars, spyware, or firewalls affect my use of an AMR Web site?

Yes, pop-up blocking software, third-party toolbars, spyware, and firewalls can affect your use of an AMR Web site.
Warning: Prior to using an AMR Web site, you must either reconfigure your pop-up blocker to allow pop-ups from the AMR sites or disable the pop-up blocker.
Note: Internet Explorer 6 and later on Windows XP Service Pack 2 include a firewall and pop-up blocker. These features can prevent AMR Web sites from displaying or functioning correctly. For more information, go to How do I troubleshoot issues with Internet Explorer 6 or later with Windows XP SP2 on AMR Web sites?

Pop-up blockers
We understand the desire to block pop-up advertisements; however, there are legitimate uses for pop-up windows. Pop-up windows appear in many important areas throughout the various AMR Web sites. Use of pop-up blockers that suppress pop-up windows can prevent you from accessing an AMR Web site or cause an AMR Web site and its various applications to malfunction. Such applications include the Non-Rev Travel Planner, Jetnet Check-In, HR Assistance, the Training Site, and the Help Center.
If you have a pop-up blocker installed on your computer, you must either disable it while using an AMR Web site or configure it to allow AMR sites to be viewed. Many pop-up blocker and firewall programs will allow you to set permissions to enable pop-up windows to open for a specific site, such as an AMR Web site. Some applications allow you to disable the pop-up blocking function while you are using a site and then enable it when you leave. However, there are some programs — often installed by file-sharing applications — that require complete removal from your system before the pop-up windows within an AMR Web site will work properly.
Symptoms of problems caused by pop-up blockers: If you are using an AMR Web site and you are experiencing issues with blank windows opening, pop-up windows that fail to open as expected, pages that do not load properly, or "Error on Page" alerts, they may relate to your pop-up blocker software settings. In addition, some pop-up blockers may change the mouse pointer to indicate that a pop-up window is being blocked. For instance, the pop-up blocker included with the Google Toolbar will change the mouse pointer to a pointing hand with an exclamation point over it.
Recommendations: If you are experiencing any of the symptoms described above and you are using the pop-up blocker included with the Google Toolbar or the Yahoo! Toolbar, see the links below for enabling, disabling, and configuring the pop-up blockers. If you are using another pop-up blocker, please contact the company from which you purchased or downloaded the pop-up blocker software. Let them know that you would like to view an AMR Web site, but their software is not allowing it. Their customer service representatives should assist you.

Enabling and disabling the Google Toolbar Popup Blocker
To enable or disable the Google Toolbar pop-up blocker, perform the following steps:
On the Google Toolbar, from the Settings menu, click Options.

In the Toolbar Options dialog box, on the More tab, click to clear Popups okay. This will disable the Popup Blocker. To enable the Popup Blocker, click to select Popups okay.
Image of steps two and three
Click OK.

Configuring the Google Toolbar Popup Blocker to allow pop-up windows from an AMR site
To configure the Google Toolbar pop-up blocker to allow pop-up windows from an AMR site, while you are on the AMR site, click the Popup Blocker button.

Note: Either the Popup Blocker button will have a count of the number of pop-up windows blocked or it will be labeled No Popups. After it is clicked, the button label will change to Popups okay.

Enabling or disabling the Yahoo! Toolbar Pop-Up Blocker
To disable or enable the Yahoo! Toolbar Pop-Up Blocker, click the drop-down arrow next to the Pop-Up Blocker button, and then click Enable Pop-Up Blocker.

Configuring the Yahoo! Toolbar Pop-up Blocker to allow pop-up windows from an AMR site
To configure the Yahoo! Toolbar Pop-Up Blocker to allow pop-up windows from an AMR site, perform the following steps:
Note: You must click the link for the pop-up window that you want to view allow before you will have the option to allow it.
Log in to Jetnet and click the link for the pop-up window that you want to allow.
From the Yahoo! Toolbar, click the drop-down arrow next to the Pop-Up Blocker button, and then click Always Allow Pop-Ups From.
Image of step two
In the Yahoo! Pop-Up Blocker dialog box, under Sources of Recently Blocked Pop-Ups, click to select the site you want to allow, and then click Allow. In this example, nrtp.jetnet.aa.com is clicked to allow the Non-Rev Travel Planner to pop up.
Image of steps three and four
Click Close.

Third-party toolbars
Third-party toolbars, such as Hotbar, can add functionality to your Web browser. Unfortunately, they may also interfere with an AMR Web site because they often include pop-up blockers, or they may redirect your browser to a different Web site.
Symptoms of problems caused by third-party toolbars: Because some third-party toolbars include pop-up blockers, you may experience some of the same issues that are associated with pop-up blockers. Some toolbars may redirect your browser to a search page when you try to get to an AMR Web site.
Recommendations: If you are experiencing any of the symptoms described above, please contact the company from which you purchased or downloaded the toolbar. Let them know that you would like to view an AMR Web site, but their software is interfering. Their customer service representatives should assist you. For issues with pop-up blocking software that is included with the toolbar, go to Pop-up blockers.
Note: To disable third-party toolbars in Internet Explorer, from the View menu, select Toolbars, and then click to clear any third-party toolbars. It may still be necessary to uninstall the toolbar to prevent it from interfering with the AMR Web sites. In this example, we are disabling the Google toolbar.

Spyware
Changes to your Web browser that you did not make, such as extra toolbars, different homepage settings, or changes to your favorites list, could indicate that you have spyware running on your system. Spyware can also cause pop-up ads to appear that are unrelated to the Web site you are viewing. Spyware ads often contain offensive material. Hyperlinks may not work or may take you somewhere you did not expect. A sluggish system may also be a sign that spyware has infected your computer.
Symptoms of problems caused by spyware: Spyware may prevent you from using links on an AMR Web site or it may redirect your browser to an unexpected page.
Recommendations: To remove spyware from your system, you will need to install spyware removal software, which you can find easily by searching the Internet.

Firewalls
Firewalls do their jobs very well, but they can block some of the harmless-but-necessary AMR Web site application cookies from reaching your computer.
Symptoms of problems caused by firewalls: If you are using an AMR Web site and you are experiencing issues with pop-up windows failing to open as expected, pages not loading properly, or "Error on Page" alerts, they may be related to your firewall software settings.
Recommendations: Refer to the documentation for the firewall or contact the company that you purchased or downloaded the firewall from to learn how to allow AMR Web site cookies to access your computer and AMR Web site pop-up windows to appear.

Browser settings
Browser settings can also prevent you from viewing an AMR Web site. For information on configuring Internet Explorer for AMR Web sites, go to How do I configure Internet Explorer 6 or later for use with an AMR Web site?
Note: After making changes to your computer, it may be necessary to clear the temporary Internet files, cookies, and history from your Web browser before the changes will take effect. For more information, click the appropriate link below:
